Making A Comeback

The Dixie Chicks haven't released a new song or album since 2006, until now. On March 4, 2020 for the first time in 14 years they released their new single "Gaslighter".

"Gaslighter"is serving as the title track to their eighth album. It was released with a video proving that they still "got it" and never lost it. I've always loved the Dixie Chicks and there music, and wasn't really old enough to understand why they dropped off the face of the Earth. So why did the Dixie Chicks take a 14 year break?

On March 10, 2003, at a concert in London the lead singer Natalie Maines stated "We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States (George W. Bush) is from Texas. This was just nine days before the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It initially got a positive response from the British audience but had the exact opposite effect in the US. This eventually lead to the downfall of the Dixie Chicks. Radio stations and people across the country boycotted their music and refused to support them. The band even lost major sponsorships in fear of the repercussions. People sent them death threats and said nasty horrible things about them, most of them sexist and degrading because they are women. All in all, it was a bad situation.

I for one, am just happy they are back creating music. I am constantly singing in the car with my siblings and friends to their songs, and I am excited to see what they come up with. Go check out their new single and stay tuned for another post this week giving my top Dixie Chicks picks.
